Honeycutt’s Post-Partisan 2008 Campaign
Despite losing the 2008 election, Deborah Honeycutt won a higher percentage of votes than any other Democrat or Republican challenger compared to the Presidential candidate on top of the ticket. In fact, she scored four points higher than Senator John McCain in Georgia’s 13th district. The only other Republican or Democratic challenger to beat the Presidential Candidate at the top of the ticket for their party was Democrat Bobby Saxon in Georgia’s 10th district, who edged out President Obama by .27% more of the cast votes.
Dr. Honeycutt’s relative success in the district is attributed to her post party campaign message. Deborah Honeycutt did not run as a Republican or as a Democrat. She ran on solutions to problems that the 13th district faces, such as education, healthcare, energy, and small businesses. There is no doubt in my mind that when the people of the 13th district hear Dr. Honeycutt’s message, they will support her. All of the data I have collected supports this.
