Unemployment in Georgia is high. The national debt is exploding. Teachers are forced to buy their own classroom supplies and prosecutors and law enforcement agents have been furloughed due to budget cuts. So it is outrageous that taxpayer funded congressional travel continues to increase!
The expenses racked up by Rep David Scott and other U.S. lawmakers traveling to a Scotland conference included costly extras. Besides rooms for sleeping, Rep Scott and other Democrat members of the House of Representatives rented their hotel’s fireplace-equipped presidential suite and two adjacent rooms. The hotel cleared out the beds and in their place set up a bar, a snack room and office space. Three additional rooms — stocked with liquor, Coors beer, chips and salsa, sandwiches, Mrs. Fields cookies and York Peppermint Patties — cost a total of about $1,500 a night. They were rented for five nights.

Morehouse College Republicans Endorsement
Republicans at the historic Morehouse College alma mater of Dr. Martin L. King Jr. officially endorses Dr. Deborah Honeycutt.
We the Student Republicans at Morehouse College proudly endorse Dr. Deborah Honeycutt in her bid for Congress.
Dr. Honeycutt’s plan to tackle the problems faced by the African American Community and the 13th Congressional District as a whole, coupled with her ability to get things done makes her the best candidate. We the Student Republicans at Morehouse College believe in rebuilding and uplifting our communities.
Dr. Honeycutt has a plan to accomplish this goal through her Urban Initiative. The current congressman hasn’t done anything to uplift and empower the 13 district, particularly the minority areas. We recognize that many African Americans shy away when they hear the word Republican but it’s time for us to elect people that will truly represent and leverage resources to meet the needs of our community.
We urge you to join us as we take a giant step in strengthening our communities, through supporting Dr. Deborah Honeycutt.
I am writing to thank the Hip Hop Republicans for the embrace of the civic process and attention to my candidacy for the Republican nomination for the 13th Congressional District of Georgia. I am heartened by the fusion of the highest contemporary African American cultural and political discourse, finding its way into the great debate over who will represent the 629,732 residents of Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton and Henry counties in the nation’s ‘factory of ideas,’ the Congress of the United States.
An integral part of my campaign is my ‘Urban Initiative’ and as a congresswoman I will present and support legislation that specially targets unemployment, financial literacy programs, education and better, more reliable public transportation in our urban communities. These four tenants are key to any successful community.
I encourage you all to continue your participation in the art of democracy for your voice is much appreciated in the larger conversation. I look forward to honoring your endorsement with my commitment to and working for our urban communities.
Regards,
Deborah Ann Travis Honeycutt, MD

Hip Hop Republicans’ Endorsement
Election season is upon us, and HHR Blog is ready to endorse Republican & Libertarian candidates who include urban issues into there platforms. This year has seen a surge of Republican candidates running in traditional Democrat areas. The tide against incumbents has given regular citizens a chance to play there hands at politics. As a blog we are known for highlighting minority and urban Republican candidates around the nation. What we are not known for is endorsing candidates.
This year we have decided to endorse candidates who have an explicit urban agenda in there platform. The GOP once did very well in urban areas but over the years lost touch with this important constituency. Urban voters make up one of the largest voting block in the country and ignoring them will have devastating effects for the Republican Party in years to come.
The Democrats overall political strategy to taking control of the political landscape is to target swing states in hopes of mobilizing urban and minority voters. If such a campaign is successful it will overtime offset rural Conservatives voters who generally vote Republican. The GOP can no longer just sit back and ignore this important voting block and allow millions of minority and urban votes to be cast for the Democrat candidate.
The first candidate that we have chosen to endorse this year for including an urban platform is Dr. Deborah Honeycutt. If you would like to support her candidacy you can do so by visiting http://www.honeycuttforcongress.com /. The district that she is running in is Georgia’s 13th congressional district which has been represented in the United States House of Representatives by David Scott, a Democrat, since 2003. The district includes Atlanta the thirty-third largest city in the United States.
